Roger Cox - Chairman of Governors

I am a Community Governor and I have always thoroughly enjoyed my involvement with the staff and children.  I have been chairman of the governing body for 11 years and was a founder member of the board of Faringdon Academy of Schools.  Following retirement from the Royal Air Force, I worked at the UK Defence Academy. I am a district councillor for Faringdon and deputy leader Vale of White Horse District Council, where I am cabinet member for planning and cabinet member for housing.  I am also a town councillor.  My wife Jessamyn and I have lived here for 20 years and we sing with the ‘Cotswold Voices’; we have three adult children and three lovely granddaughters.

I have been a Parent Governor since January 2013.  I am married to Mark and we have two children: Alex who is currently in Year 3 and Ava who is in Reception.  I am a Chartered Mechanical Engineer by profession but after 13 years in industry I decided to take a career break in 2010 when Ava was born.  We made our home in Faringdon in 2007 and love the town!  I am passionate about supporting the community in which we live, hence becoming a school governor.  I am also involved with children's work at All Saints church.

I am the lead governor for Special Needs and sit on the Standards Committee which principally looks at the schools teaching performance.  I love going into school, helping in class, joining in assembly.   The school is a fantastic happy nurturing environment which I am proud to be involved with it.

I have been a Parent Governor since November 2013 and chair both the Standards Committee and a working group on ICT. The Standards Committee oversees students’ progress, the curriculum, and teaching & learning.  Its job is to ensure the school is supported to provide the best opportunities and education for every child.

I have one child in the Infant school in Year 1 and my daughter spent many happy years in the Infant School before moving on to the Junior School.  I am thankful the school works so hard to provide a warm, nurturing space for all children to progress and thrive to the best of their ability.

I am the Literacy Coordinator in a secondary school in Swindon and have previously headed a department which organised summer camps for children from 5 to 16 years old.  I also play an active role in preparing young adults for their Duke of Edinburgh award qualification.

Term of Office: 4 years until 19.1.17
Committee Membership: Standards & Curriculum (Chair),  Responsibility for Pupil Premium, ICT.

I became a Parent Governor in November 2014.  I live in Faringdon with my husband and 3 daughters.  Before having children I worked as a Biomedical Scientist but am currently taking a career break.  I have got 2 children at the school, 1 in Year 1 and the other in Sunflower class. My third child has just turned one.  I have been really impressed with Faringdon Infant School since my eldest started there 2 years ago.  I am looking forward to working with the school to help it continue to be the best it can be and to give back to the local community.

I became a Community Governor in May 2015 following my eldest daughter starting her Reception year.  Part of my reason for wanting to become a Governor stems from how impressed I have been with all she has learned and how that has been achieved.  I have seen first hand on the 'stay and play' mornings what an interesting, caring, busy and vibrant place it is to be and to learn in.  I really want to help the school continue to be the best it can, not only for my own children but for the whole community.  I will also be helping with the PR & Communications sub-committee and am the Treasurer of FOFIS (the parent/teacher group).  On a personal note, I have lived in Faringdon for 13 years with my husband and our 3 children aged 5, 3 and 1.  When not being a mum or a governor I work as a solicitor in Oxford.

Term of Office: 4 years until 11.05.19

I became a Community Governor in May 2015 whilst my son was in his Reception year at Faringdon Infant School.  I expressed an interest in becoming a Governor when it was evident that my son thoroughly enjoyed his time at school and was making good  progress in all aspects of school life.  I want to help ensure that my child, and all children at FIS, can reach their potential and develop a love of learning.  I have joined the Standards Committee as I have a keen interest in Teaching and Learning and students' progress.  I have worked as a Science Teacher for the past 12 years whilst having my 2 children, now 5 and 3 years old.

Term of Office: 4 years until 11.05.19
